TRACECA will conduct an educational introductory tour along the Central Asia-EU route from 16 to 24 May, during which it will identify the opportunities to increase trade passing through the Caspian and Black Sea ports. The organization told the Azerbaijani News Agency Trend about this.
The Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia (TRACECA) is a program of international cooperation between the EU and partner countries. It is a unified system of cargo and passenger transportation between European and Asian countries, which ensures the development of economic, political and cultural relations among the states of this region. The Transport Corridor Europe Caucasus Asia was established in 1993 on the basis of the Brussels Declaration with the participation of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The project was soon joined by Ukraine, Moldova and Mongolia, in 2000 - by Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria, while in 2009 - by Iran.
As the source told Trend, "the educational tour will include the Kazakh city of Aktau, Baku, Tbilisi and Batumi, which delegations from these countries, Central Asian countries, as well as Bulgaria and Turkey will take part in. The event will be held with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Central Asia and in cooperation with the Union of transport workers of Kazakhstan "KAZLOGISTICS".
According to the TRACECA office, the governments of Central Asian countries have recently paid special attention to increasing the supply of cargo through the Caspian Sea, as carriers face some problems on transit routes due to the war in Ukraine.
More than 40 representatives of customs and government structures of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan and members of the Central Asian Transport and Logistics Partnership will visit the Alat and Kuryk Ports located at the Caspian Sea, as well as the Batumi Port - at the Black Sea. They will study pricing policies, conduct analytical studies, and familiarize themselves with the process of cargo handling to develop recommendations and further simplify procedures.
In addition, the event will be attended by representatives of the National Road Transport Operators Associations, logistics companies and freight forwarders, seaports and shipping companies from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Central Asia, who are directly involved in international road transport. Participants from Bulgaria and Turkey will be offered to explore the possibilities of international road transport through their territories.
