“October 2023 Georgia's power plants generated a total of 1,043 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. This figure represents a 1% increase in total production compared to the previous year (total production in October 2022 was 1.034 million kilowatt-hours). The annual increase in production was driven by an increase in the output of thermal power plants (+179%), while the output of wind (-11%) and hydropower plants (-30%) decreased,” - the ISET Research Institute says.
On a monthly basis, production decreased by approximately 7% (total production in September 2023 equaled 1.118 million kilowatt hours). The month-on-month decrease in production was caused by a decline in the output of hydro (-25%) and wind (-15%) plants, while the output of thermal power plants (+42%) increased.
Electricity consumption in the local market amounted to 988 million kilowatt-hours (down 8% compared to October 2022 and up 5% compared to September 2023). In October 2023, the energy production exceeded consumption by 55 million kilowatt-hours, which was 5% of full production and 6% of full consumption (in October 2022, the difference between production and consumption amounted to a deficit of 44 million kilowatt-hours, which during the month both full production and, equaled approximately 4% of total consumption).
