In December 2024, remittances to Georgia from abroad reached $285.39 million, with $128.76 million, or 45.11%, originating from European Union member countries, according to the National Bank. This marked a 3.95% increase in remittances from the EU compared to the previous month. However, the total amount received was 8.2% lower than the remittances sent to Georgia in December 2023, which amounted to $25.6 million less.
Among EU countries, Italy led with the highest remittance volume, totaling $50.94 million, a 1.38% increase year-on-year. Greece followed with $23.89 million (a 3.93% increase), and Germany contributed $23.47 million, reflecting a 6.74% rise.
In addition to the EU, other key sources of remittances included the United States, with $55.32 million, Russia, with $31.25 million, and Israel, with $23.27 million.
Overall, 96% of the total remittances to Georgia in December came from 24 countries, each contributing more than $1 million in transfers. Additionally, Georgia's outbound remittances for the month amounted to $34.8 million, showing a slight increase from $32.3 million in December 2023.
