According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, 8,181 tons of wheat and meslin (with a revenue of $ 2.9 million) were imported to Georgia in April this year, which is 73,11 tons less than the volume imported in April 2021 (31,140 tons with a revenue of $ 7,364 million).
This year, the key importer of wheat in the country is Russia - in April Georgia bought 8,117 tons of wheat from our northern neighboring country, which is 99% of the total amount. The remaining 1% came from Kazakhstan and Austria.
In the corresponding month of the previous year, Georgia bought 28,261 tons of wheat from Russia, which is 71% more than this year, while we bought 2,879 tons of wheat from the United States in April last year.
Unlike wheat, flour imports are growing - in April of this year, a total of 16,269 tons of flour were imported to Georgia, which is 1020% more than the volume (1,452 tons) imported in April of the previous year. Georgia paid over $ 6 million for the imported products.
Russia is the main supplier of flour to Georgia, 99% of the products are imported from Russia, and 1% - from Turkey and Italy. In April 2022, Georgia bought 16,170 tons of flour from Russia, which is 1039% more than the volume imported in April of the previous year.
