Reportedly, as part of the Georgian-German financial cooperation, with the financial support of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany/KFW, the infrastructure project for the development of the modern water system in Batumi is one of the projects implemented in Georgia.
On March 21, 2022, the Chairman of Autonomous Republic of Adjara, met with the representatives of the German Embassy and KFW. The current and future projects with the involvement and funding of the German side were discussed at the meeting. In particular, Tornike Rizhvadze stressed the need to implement the fifth phase of the Batumi water system development project in Adjara.
The parties agreed on further steps in agreement with the German side, which will provide funding for the fifth phase of the project with 78.8 million euros (including 53 million euros allocated by the German government/KfW). The 4th phase of one of the largest projects on the development for the Batumi water system infrastructure has already been completed in Adjara within the framework of the Georgian-German financial cooperation. Within the framework of the fifth phase of the project, a modern water supply and sewerage system will be arranged in the territory of Adlia, Airport, Kakhabari, Chakvi, Industrial Zone, Khelvachauri, Mejinistskali. The project envisages the arrangement of modern water systems in the whole territory of Batumi, the improvement of the capacity of the city's drainage systems, the reduction of environmental pollution and its negative impact on it.
The meeting was attended by the Head of the South Caucasus Development Cooperation at the German Embassy, Lydia Kritzman, KFW South Caucasus Regional Director, Birgit Holderid, the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mzia Giorgobiani, and the Deputy Minister of Finance of Georgia, Ekaterine Guntsadze.
