Hungarian Ambassador to Georgia Anna Maria Siko addressed Georgia’s Parliament Foreign Relations Committee, emphasizing Hungary’s view of Georgia as a key strategic partner in the South Caucasus and a central part of its "Eastern Opening Policy." She underlined shared values such as European heritage, Christian traditions, and mutual respect for sovereignty.
Siko reviewed the deepening partnership since their 2022 strategic agreement, including ministerial meetings, intergovernmental summits, and multiple MOUs. Hungary remains a strong supporter of Georgia’s territorial integrity and European aspirations, but respects Georgia’s autonomy in choosing its path toward Europe.
Addressing broader geopolitical issues, Siko reiterated Hungary’s long-standing call for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war and criticized those who once dismissed Hungary’s peace-oriented stance. She highlighted Hungary’s humanitarian aid to over 1.4 million Ukrainians, despite existing political tensions with Ukraine.
Finally, Siko noted Hungary’s reservations regarding Ukraine’s EU membership, citing unresolved issues with ethnic minority rights and internal peace. She stressed that until those are addressed, Hungary cannot support Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
