
In the first 7 months of this year, Georgia purchased 9,108 tons of chocolate worth of $30.8 million.
According to official statistics, the import value of chocolate and other ready-made food products containing cocoa increased by 24.6% compared to January-July of last year, while the volume of imported products decreased slightly by 1.6%. Therefore, we can say that the value of the mentioned product in the import markets has increased.
The main chocolate import market for Georgia was Russia, which accounts for 43.8% of total imports. Georgia’s TOP-10 largest trading partner countries for imports are as follows:
1. Russia - $13.5 million, 4 626 tons;
2. Turkey - $5.4 million, 1 224 tons;
3. Ukraine - $3.9 million, 1 218 tons;
4. Belgium - $2.4 million, 640 tons;
5. Italy - $1.1 million, 347 tons;
6. Germany - $861 thousand, 354 tons;
7. Poland - $620 thousand, 84 tons;
8. Armenia - $526 thousand, 97 tons;
9. Netherlands - $479 thousand, 42 tons;
10. Azerbaijan - R448 thousand, 168 tons.
As for the exports, in the first 7 months of 2022, 385 tons of chocolate and other ready-made cocoa-containing food products worth of $1.2 million were exported from Georgia. Out of this, the local export volume amounted to 241 tons ($662 thousand), and re-export volume - 144 tons ($577 thousand). The list of Georgia’s trading partner countries for exports includes Iran ($351 thousand, 96 tons), Azerbaijan ($299 thousand, 112 tons), Armenia ($296 thousand, 61 tons), Saudi Arabia ($116 thousand, 51 tons), Iraq ($97 thousand , 40 tons), Turkey ($57 thousand, 20 tons), Canada ($6 thousand, 1 ton) and Kuwait, Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates.
