Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Economy Minister of Georgia, emphasized the Government’s responsible and forward-looking approach in economic policy and said its decision to build a new airport for capital Tbilisi reflected the country’s ambitions and growth dynamics.
"As a responsible Government, we are of course looking forward and taking into account the ambitions and growth dynamics we have. That is why we have decided to construct a new international airport in Vaziani, near Tbilisi, designed to accommodate 20 million passengers”, - Kvrivishvili stated.
She expressed confidence the new airport would not only be a successful project but also one of the world's best with both aesthetic appeal and operational functionality. The Deputy Minister also highlighted the airport’s potential to enhance Georgia's status as a transit and logistics hub.
"We have already initiated the planning and construction process for the new airport, and are collaborating closely with the operators of Tbilisi and Batumi international airports to manage the anticipated increase in passenger flow. Additionally, plans are underway to undertake large-scale infrastructural projects at Kutaisi International Airport, including the construction of a new runway and the rehabilitation of the entire flight area to accommodate a growing number of passengers”, - Kvrivishvili said.
The project is expected to cost $1.26 billion.
