The German Embassy in Georgia has issued a statement regarding the decision of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development to suspend projects in Georgia valued at €237 million.
According to the Embassy's announcement, this decision represents Minister Svenja Schulze’s response to Georgia’s deviation from its European Union integration trajectory and the use of violence against pro-European demonstrators.
The suspended projects encompass critical initiatives, including the financing of green hydrogen development, energy grid improvements, and water infrastructure in Batumi.
The Embassy further emphasized that Georgian authorities have engaged in systemic violations of human rights in an effort to suppress mass protests. Nevertheless, the Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to supporting civil society and upholding the rule of law in Georgia.
“Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze has urged Georgian authorities to cease violence against the population and to recommit to the path of EU integration, as mandated by the Georgian Constitution,” the statement concluded.
