
Within the framework of the annual spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the Georgian Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili and the President of the National Bank Koba Gvenetadze met with the Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Bo Li.
The Finance Minister thanked the Deputy Managing Director of the IMF for the Fund's support of Georgia's reform agenda. The results of the Fund's four-year program have been positively assessed, particularly in terms of reducing the damage caused by the Covid-19 global pandemic.
The sides reviewed the current macroeconomic and fiscal parameters of the country and the economic recovery trends. Attention was paid to the impact of the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine on the region and the world. The Finance Minister underlined the steps that Georgia has taken to support Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in the political and humanitarian spheres.
A recent meeting with the IMF Deputy Managing Director highlighted the successful completion of negotiations with the IMF mission on the launch of a new three-year program to be approved by the IMF Executive Board.
As the Finance Minister noted, the new program to support the economic development will contribute to the continuation of structural reforms and the maintenance of fiscal stability in the country.
At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed readiness to further develop relations between Georgia and the International Monetary Fund.
The World Bank Managing Director of Operations Axel van Trotsenburg echoed the meeting with the Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili, Trend reports citing 1TV.
“We discussed energy diversification, regional connectivity, transformational projects and sharing Georgia’s experience with World Bank Group (WBG) International Development Agency (IDA) countries. Thank you for being an IDA champion,” WB Managing Director wrote on Facebook.
