“Romeo Mikautadze, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, took part in the 9th High Level Meeting of the Energy Union, Energy and Climate Committee, which was attended by the representatives of the Energy Union, the European Commission, the Energy Union member states and economic experts,” - the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia reports.
The meeting discussed the issue of setting target indicators of 2030 for the member states of the Energy Union, including Georgia, in four key directions: the goal of reducing Georgia's greenhouse gases, the share of renewables in the country's total energy consumption and the country's primary and final energy consumption by 2030.
During the meeting, Romeo Mikautadze reviewed the important processes ongoing in the country in terms of energy and climate change, including the need to align the proposed objectives with the contribution already defined at the Georgian national level and with the draft Georgian National Energy and Climate Integrated Plan.
The Deputy Minister of Economy stressed the need for closer communication between Georgia and the representatives of the Energy Union to improve the target indicators.
Within the framework of the meeting, a bilateral dialogue was held between the Georgian delegation and the representatives of the Energy Union and the European Commission. The technical experts of the Georgian side discussed in detail the possibilities of fulfilling the target indicators proposed for Georgia by the European Commission and the main obstacles and relevant assumptions, as a result of which, the need for further technical meetings was identified. It is noteworthy that by agreement of both parties, the modeling results and relevant data and technical information will be exchanged to determine the target indicators for 2030.
