
In the first quarter of 2025, Georgia’s wine imports and exports experienced significant declines, reflecting shifting trade dynamics in the sector.
Between January and March, Georgia imported 69 tons of wine worth $748,000, a steep 56.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2024, when 158 tons valued at $1.1 million were brought in.
Italy remained the top wine supplier to Georgia, exporting 37 tons worth $264,000, though this also marked a 42.1% drop from last year’s 64 tons valued at $410,000.

On the export side, Georgian wine also faced a downturn. In Q1 2025, natural grape wine accounted for 3.6% of Georgia’s total exports, which totaled $1.4 billion. Revenue from wine exports fell 40.4% year-over-year, amounting to $49.83 million, compared to over $83 million in the same period last year.
Georgia exported 16.55 million liters of wine during this period, a significant drop from 30 million liters in Q1 2024. Despite the decline, wine still ranked as Georgia’s fourth-largest export commodity.
