According to a Galt & Taggart report, Georgia’s wholesale electricity price increased by 4.4% year-on-year, reaching 5.8 US cents per kWh. Power plants operating under power purchase agreements (PPAs) continued to account for the largest share of electricity generation used for balancing purposes.
The report also notes that the regulatory framework for micro-capacity power plants has been revised. The previous net metering system has been replaced by a net billing mechanism, and the definition of a micro-capacity plant has been narrowed from 500 kW to 100 kW.
Additionally, the Georgian Government has revoked memorandums for approximately 50 power plant projects. This move represents the first step in implementing its policy aimed at eliminating the practice of retaining project rights without demonstrating tangible progress.
