The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) has released preliminary results of the 2024 Population and Agricultural Census. As of November 14, 2024, Georgia’s population stands at 3.91 million, with women making up 53% (2.08 million) and men 47% (1.83 million).
According to the data, 93.4% of residents (3.65 million) are Georgian citizens, while around 6.6% are foreign nationals permanently living in the country.
The census was conducted from November 14 to December 31, 2024, across the entire country except for the occupied regions. The official reference point for population count was midnight on November 13–14.
For the first time, the census was carried out electronically using modern technology. It involved two phases: self-registration (November 14–23) and computer-assisted personal interviews (November 29–December 31).
The preliminary results, published on June 25, 2025, provide data on population distribution by region, municipality, gender, and urban-rural areas. Geostat noted that the data is still being verified using administrative sources.
The final census results are expected in June 2026.
“Due to high public interest, Geostat will continue sharing updates as data processing continues,” the agency said.
