President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili emphasized that no country can rely on external support if it fails to defend its own national interests. According to him, Georgia’s peace and stability are largely the result of a well-informed society that understands the challenges facing the country, including those related to the European Union and broader global processes.
The President noted that years ago the government chose to speak openly with the public about emerging global challenges. While this direct approach initially raised concerns, time has shown that these warnings were justified. He stated that the effects of globalization, the bureaucratic nature of the European Union, and certain confrontational dynamics involving international structures—including tensions with the United States—have since become more apparent.
Kavelashvili stressed that preparedness has been a decisive factor in maintaining stability. Because the majority of Georgian society understood these challenges in advance, the country has been able to navigate complex international developments more responsibly and cautiously.
“In such circumstances, vigilance is essential,” the President said, adding that citizens must be even better informed to objectively assess ongoing processes. He underlined that Georgia’s experience once again proves a clear reality: without defending its own national interests, no external actor will do so on its behalf.
The President also reaffirmed Georgia’s openness to dialogue with the European Union, emphasizing that the country seeks not confrontation, but the preservation of peace, prevention of radicalism and foreign interference, and the strengthening of national security and stability.
Georgia, he said, remains committed to development and balanced international relations. The country’s approach is based on prioritizing national interests while maintaining equal and constructive relations with all partners.
“We want peace, stability, economic growth, and dialogue with everyone,” Kavelashvili stated.
Addressing Europe’s current challenges, the President expressed hope that the European Union will overcome its internal crises. He reiterated Georgia’s long-standing aspiration to be part of Europe and voiced confidence that the EU will find the strength to preserve its core values and historical role.
