Georgia’s Parliament has passed the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) with 86 votes in favor during its third reading. Speaker Shalva Papuashvili highlighted that the law mirrors the U.S. version exactly.
Alongside FARA, amendments to the Criminal Code were also approved. The new legislation regulates the registration of entities acting as foreign agents, with the Anti-Corruption Bureau tasked with its enforcement.
Key provisions include the requirement for transparency in registration applications, annual financial declarations, and compliance monitoring. Failure to register or comply with the law will lead to criminal liability.
The bill is now set to be sent to the President for signature.
