President Salome Zurabishvili has sharply criticized the Georgian government following the arrest of opposition leaders from the United National Movement, calling it a “shameful” and “anti-Georgian policy.”
In a strongly worded statement, Zurabishvili accused the ruling authorities of:
Arresting political leaders without cause
Using intimidation tactics to silence dissent
Covering up internal corruption through targeted detentions
Damaging Georgia’s international reputation
Attacking international partners, including making accusations related to U.S. Congress and former President Trump
“Every step you take turns into a new disgrace for Georgia,” Zurabishvili wrote, warning that the government’s actions are erasing the country's values and image on the global stage. She held the ruling leadership fully responsible for undermining national interests.
