
Electricity production in Georgia fell by 1.1% in 2024, totaling 14,234.1 million kWh, according to official data. Extraction of key energy resources also shifted: crude oil output decreased by 8.0%, natural gas by 3.0%, while coal extraction rose by 20.1%. Firewood production declined 7.2% to 1,034.6 thousand m³.
Electricity made up the bulk of Georgia’s energy production structure (77.4%), followed by biofuel and waste (12.3%).
Energy consumption trends (2024):
Final electricity consumption grew 6.0% to 13,006.1 million kWh.
Natural gas demand reached 3,404.3 million m³ (+1.1%), with final consumption rising 7.7% to 2,711.2 million m³, driven by increased industrial, service, and agricultural use; road transport consumption declined.
Petroleum product consumption totaled 1,578.6 thousand tonnes, up 8.4% from 2023.
In the overall energy consumption structure, natural gas accounted for 42.4%, petroleum products for 29.6%, electricity for 20.5%, coal for 3.5%, and biofuel, geothermal, and solar energy for 4.0%.
Sectoral breakdown: Transport was the largest consumer (33.0%), followed by residential use (31.9%). Industry accounted for 15.3%, construction 4.3%, agriculture/forestry/fishing 0.6%, and commercial and public services plus other users 14.9%.
