Despite the impact of new US tariffs, Georgian Vice Prime Minister Levan Davitashvili emphasized that Georgia benefits from being classified as a particularly friendly country, with a low 10% tariff rate.
Speaking on "Gamis Kurieri," Davitashvili explained that although Georgia faces tariffs on some exports to the US, the country enjoys a favorable tariff structure, particularly for ferroalloys, which make up over 60% of Georgia’s exports to the US and are exempt from tariffs. He estimated the total additional cost from the 10% tariff on other goods to be around $4 million, a negligible amount.
He also pointed out that certain products, such as Georgian wine, could benefit from the 10% tariff, making them more competitive compared to wines from countries facing higher tariffs. Davitashvili suggested that this tariff advantage, if sustained, could attract more investment to Georgia.
