Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili dismissed claims of a “sensational” meeting with the British Foreign Secretary, clarifying that the interaction in question was a routine telephone conversation rather than an in-person meeting.
Responding to questions about the call, Botchorishvili stressed that speaking by phone with ministers from various countries is a standard part of diplomatic work.
“Of course, I have had—and continue to have—telephone conversations with different ministers. When such discussions are not made public, it is due to the sensitivity of the issues involved,” she said.
Botchorishvili outlined the main subjects of the conversation: the United Kingdom’s recognition of the occupation of two Georgian regions after 17 years, and matters related to sanctions, including Georgia’s ongoing efforts to prevent its territory from being used to circumvent them.
“I do not see anything particularly sensational or unusually important in these topics. Whether they are public or not changes nothing for Georgian society,” she noted. Botchorishvili added that anyone concerned about the spread of false information regarding a supposed meeting should address those who circulated claims without verification.
