
The absolute poverty rate in Georgia declined significantly in 2024, dropping to 9.4%, according to new data released by the National Statistics Office (GeoStat). This marks a 2.4 percentage point decrease compared to the previous year, reflecting notable progress in poverty reduction efforts.
The decline was observed in both urban and rural areas:

In urban areas, the poverty rate fell by 1.6 percentage points to 7.8%.

In rural areas, it saw a sharper decline of 3.7 percentage points, reaching 11.9%.
Poverty levels decreased across all age groups:

Among those under 18, the rate dropped by 4.0 percentage points to 12.1%.

For the 18–64 age group, it fell by 2.1 points to 9.3%.

Among those 65 and older, the rate declined by 1.3 points to 6.7%.
These improvements indicate a broad-based reduction in poverty throughout the country, with rural areas and children seeing some of the most significant gains.
