Georgians stuck in the conflict zone in Sudan are still unable to leave the country. After the clashes, the citizens of Georgia have been waiting for the stabilization of the situation for five days unsuccessfully.
In Khartoum, 33 Georgian representatives of two airlines are in a safe area, although they are provided with limited amounts of electricity and food. Airline representatives are in daily contact with international partners to get Georgian citizens out of the conflict zone.
"Last night, gunfire, explosions and overhead fighter jets were slightly heard across Sudan's capital Khartoum. Our employees are still at their place of residence. The main thing is that they are supplied with water and food. They don't have electricity 24 hours a day, due to the fact that it's a bit difficult to get diesel. We are waiting for the parties to reach an agreement on the ceasefire," - Shalva Kiknadze, Vice-President of Airline Geo Sky, stated.
To be reminded, the conflict in Sudan began on April 16, stemming from a power struggle within the military leadership. The army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has been carrying out airstrikes against the Rapid Reaction Force, resulting in more than 1,100 deaths. There have been bombings in Khartoum, damaging infrastructure, including a UN humanitarian air service plane. Foreign citizens are advised to stay at home by diplomatic missions in Sudan.
