According to the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, in January-April of this year, tourism was restored by 69% compared to 2019. Davitashvili stated about it at the briefing held after the government session.
It should be noted that in 2019, Georgia received more than $ 3.2 billion in tourism revenues.
"In 2022, we planned to restore 70% of tourism revenues. According to today’s data, the tourism sector has recovered by 69%, that is, the January-April data. We have already earned about $ 582 million in revenue. The tourism industry is being formed in a new manner. Particularly, as the number of long-term visits increases, the revenue from tourism is better restored. This is a very important factor for us to achieve the economic growth we planned by the end of the year," – Davitashvili stated.
After the government session, the Minister also spoke about the issue of the air traffic resumption and said that up to 400 flights from various Georgian airports are planned in May.
"Negotiations are still underway with the airlines to perform flights in various directions," - Davitashvili said.
