In a recent interview with Rustavi 2, Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili stressed the need for peaceful elections and accused the opposition of being weak and influenced by foreign forces. He called on all citizens and institutions to ensure calm and fair elections.
Kavelashvili described Georgian Dream as the only strong and consistent political force in the country, claiming there is no viable opposition. He criticized opposition groups for trying to incite unrest and use political processes for revolutionary aims.
He also addressed his offer to pardon jailed opposition leaders, saying it was intended to allow them to participate in elections and prove themselves to voters.
The president claimed that most radical opposition figures are tied to external interests and described a “deep state” network influencing Georgian politics. He accused his predecessor of misusing the presidential office and pledged to keep it within constitutional limits.
Regarding the upcoming elections, Kavelashvili said he would act only as an observer, like any other citizen.
