“Archaeological research and discoveries will change greatly the direction of the ancient Colchian culture not only in Kutaisi, but also in the world history,” - scientists of the Georgian-Polish Permanent Archeological Research Group, who presented the exhibits found in Kutaisi to the President of Georgia today, say.
As the Presidential Administration reported, “it has been several years the Georgian and Polish specialists have been carrying out scientific activities in Kutaisi within the archeological mission under the patronage of the President of Georgia. The Colchian material coming from the time of the Argonauts: pottery, the material used for casting famous Colchian axes, the items imported from the ancient world, the so-called Ecological artefacts, the Greek artifacts that indicate the existence of a trade system between the Greek civilization and the South Caucasus - this is an incomplete list of the exhibits that were discovered during excavations in and around the Kutaisi Central Park. The ancient specimens of the trench date back to the 14th-13th-12th centuries BC, hence the time of the Argonauts”.
The President-sponsored Archaeological Mission operates at the Stefan Krukowski Georgian-Polish Interdisciplinary Research Center in Kutaisi, which is a cultural heritage site and was rehabilitated with the financial support of the Polish side.
Ronald Isakadze, the Director of the Kutaisi Historical-Archaeological Reserve of the Cultural Heritage Protection Agency of Georgia, hosted the President at the Center. Ronald Isakadze informed President Salome Zourabichvili, the State Representative in Imereti Region, Zviad Shalamberidze and Kutaisi Mayor, Ioseb Khakhaleishvili, about the ongoing archeological excavations.
