Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze expressed optimism that by 2030 — when Georgia expects it will be realistically positioned to achieve full European Union membership — the EU’s attitude toward Georgia and its citizens will have improved.
In an interview with TRT World, Kobakhidze highlighted that Georgia’s commitment to European integration has been firmly established in its constitution since 2017.
“We have a clear objective. It was our government that introduced a specific constitutional provision on European integration in 2017,” the Prime Minister said. “Georgia is among the few countries whose constitution explicitly defines European integration as a national goal. At present, the EU’s stance appears somewhat inconsistent and counterproductive, but we remain hopeful that by 2030, when full membership becomes achievable, their position toward Georgia and the Georgian people will have evolved.”
