Speaking to journalists in Budapest, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze declared his government’s intention to renew the country’s strategic partnership with the United States “from a clean slate,” proposing a roadmap that would outline mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations.
“We want to renew strategic partnership with the U.S. from a clean slate and, moreover, renew this partnership with a specific roadmap that will reflect mutual benefit for both states,” Kobakhidze stated. “This is a very open, clear message and there is no alternative to a positive response to this message.”
Kobakhidze went on to express confidence in a future reset of U.S.-Georgia relations, contingent on what he described as the triumph of the Trump administration over the so-called "deep state" — a term commonly used to refer to entrenched elements within the U.S. government.
“Two congratulatory letters best demonstrated the confrontation between the Trump administration and the ‘deep state,’” he said, referencing correspondence received from the U.S. side. “The first letter, sent in Senator Rubio’s name, was clearly composed under the influence of the ‘deep state’. After that, President Trump’s letter was distributed, which followed proper diplomatic protocol.”
According to the Prime Minister, the contrast between the two letters symbolizes a broader power struggle within U.S. politics. “This confrontation continues, and it is not a simple one, as the ‘deep state’ possesses vast resources,” he noted. “We must hope that the Trump administration will prevail — that is necessary for Georgian-American relations to truly reset.”
Kobakhidze reiterated that Georgia’s position, both domestically and to its American counterparts, is clear: Tbilisi seeks a reinvigorated, strategic relationship with Washington, anchored in mutual interests and a shared vision for the future.
