Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has sharply criticized the European Union's bureaucracy, claiming it is deliberately obstructing Georgia’s path toward European integration.
“The facts show the European bureaucracy is completely unfair to the Georgian people and our state,” Kobakhidze told journalists, accusing EU institutions of erecting artificial barriers to Georgia’s EU aspirations.
He pointed to the EU’s 2022 decision to deny Georgia candidate status and the repeated refusal to open accession negotiations as examples of continued injustice.
“They accused us of lacking pro-European commitment while refusing our candidacy and blocking negotiations. It’s clear who doesn’t want Georgia in the EU,” he said.
Kobakhidze also condemned what he described as EU interference in Georgia’s elections, referencing public remarks by the EU ambassador encouraging voter mobilization to change the government.
“That’s a direct, anti-democratic intervention,” he stated, concluding that the lack of logic behind the EU’s actions suggests deliberate interference within its institutions.
