
The World Senior Chess Championship has wrapped up in Gallipoli, Italy, bringing together 458 players from 64 countries to compete over 11 rounds in two age categories — 50+ and 65+ — under the Swiss system.
Georgian chess players delivered remarkable performances, earning three medals at the prestigious event.
In the 50+ category, Mikheil Kekelidze won the silver medal, scoring 9 points out of 11.
In the 65+ category, Zurab Sturua shared the top six places with 8.5 points and, after tiebreaks, secured silver.
Among women in the 65+ category, the legendary Nona Gaprindashvili finished with 7.5 points, claiming the bronze medal.
