Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has emphasized the transparency of the recent investigation into alleged crimes committed during former President Mikheil Saakashvili’s administration, noting that the entire process was conducted publicly and broadcast live.
“The entire society was watching the work of the investigation commission, which was open and public, and everyone heard once again the crimes committed by Saakashvili’s regime,” Papuashvili stated.
He also accused the opposition United National Movement, founded by Saakashvili, of continuing its “ideological” misconduct even after transitioning out of power: “Everyone once again heard the crimes that the National Movement continued to commit even after transitioning to opposition, as an ideological wing.”
Papuashvili said the commission is finalizing a comprehensive report that will be presented to parliament in September: “We are awaiting the final document, which parliament will then discuss at a plenary session. In September, parliament will have the opportunity to review the entire document, deliberate on it, and draw appropriate conclusions.”
The final session of the temporary investigation commission is scheduled for August 4.
