Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, welcomed the Prime Minister’s focus on retail food prices, calling it a matter of paramount concern for citizens in a social media post.

According to Papuashvili, preliminary research has already begun following the Prime Minister’s remarks, identifying problem areas and starting an initial investigation into price formation.

He emphasized that the parliamentary commission will be formed in an open and transparent manner, allowing the public to follow the process of retail price-setting and identify potential shortcomings.

“An open, democratic process fosters an informed citizenry that understands the issues, engages in meaningful discussions, and participates actively in decision-making,” Papuashvili said.

The Speaker confirmed that once the spring session begins, Parliament will formally establish the special commission and launch a public inquiry into how food prices are determined.
