Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili has publicly called on the Swiss Embassy to disclose detailed information about how it allocates its budget funds in Georgia. Writing on social media, Papuashvili argued that transparency is a fundamental test of responsible foreign assistance.
“If there is nothing to hide, they should make it transparent to the public who is being financed by Swiss budget funds, for what purpose, and in what volume,” he stated.
Papuashvili noted that despite multiple public requests, the Swiss Embassy—like some other donors—continues to withhold information about its funding activities in the country.
He also addressed what he described as “another false narrative” about the U.S. Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), emphasizing that concerns over foreign funding are not limited to one country.
“There are facts showing that foreign money has been used to fund hatred, violence, and propaganda, undermining the peaceful development of Georgian society,” he warned.
The statement concluded with another direct appeal to the Swiss Embassy to ensure full transparency in its financial support to organizations in Georgia.
