Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has called on Brussels to reaffirm the European Union’s core values, including respect for human rights and the rule of law, amid growing tensions between Tbilisi and EU institutions.

In a statement shared on social media, Papuashvili criticized what he described as a “torrent of attacks from Brussels on the Georgian state,” calling the trend “particularly alarming.” He claimed that these criticisms come at a time when EU funds are allegedly being used to support disinformation, hate campaigns, political persecution, and efforts to undermine democratic institutions in Georgia.

“Instead of answering these legitimate and fact-based questions, the Georgian people receive politically motivated attacks, which contradict the declared values of the European Union,” Papuashvili stated. He added that “all donors must act responsibly and transparently respond to legitimate questions.”

The speaker emphasized that reaffirming EU values and engaging in open, responsible dialogue is crucial to maintaining trust and accountability in the EU-Georgia relationship.
