Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili reacted sharply to Lithuania's decision to impose visa sanctions on 10 more Georgian officials, accusing the Baltic political elite of harboring long-standing resentment toward Georgians.
“It seems they’re picking Georgian targets with a lottery machine,” Papuashvili wrote, adding, “Given that many Baltic elites come from former communist families, this anger clearly stems from the Soviet era.”
He also suggested that SOVLAB, a Georgian research institute, might one day examine what he called a “post-Soviet phenomenon” of failed foreign-backed government overthrows.
Lithuania’s Migration Department confirmed visa bans on several Georgian judges, prosecutors, MPs, and senior officials, bringing the total number of sanctioned Georgian citizens to 112.
