Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili sharply criticized Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, accusing her of showing disregard for Georgia’s sovereignty and laws during her recent visit in her role as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.
Papuashvili said Valtonen’s participation in what he called an “unlawful gathering” revealed that the “Georgian state holds no significance for her.”
“She dismissed the legacy of Merab Kostava, our fight for independence, and our sovereignty,” Papuashvili stated. “In her eyes, it all means nothing — and we, too, are insignificant.”
He further argued that Valtonen “traded her reputation” as OSCE Chair for a "39-second video", referring to footage of her appearance at the event.
More broadly, Papuashvili questioned the idea of a “rule-based international order,” calling it a “mirage” used by powerful nations to pressure smaller states.
“The Georgian people must once again realise that there is no true international order — only a system designed to impose itself on the weak,” he said.
