The 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) proved to be a pivotal event for Georgia, allowing the delegation to engage in valuable discussions with representatives from 130 parliaments and parliamentary speakers, both in assembly sessions and through bilateral meetings, stated Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

He emphasized that the Georgian delegation used the opportunity to reinforce the country’s non-recognition policy, underscoring the importance of upholding the principles of international law. “The non-recognition policy is the key safeguard for these principles,” Papuashvili remarked.

He also highlighted meetings with European Union parliamentary speakers and members to address the concerning developments that have strained Georgia-EU relations. "We discussed the unfortunate actions from certain political circles that are deteriorating our relationship with the European Union. Our colleagues are well aware of the origins of these challenges," he said.

Papuashvili expressed confidence that once external factors—particularly the ongoing war in Ukraine—are resolved, Georgia’s relations with the EU will return to the desired norms and frameworks.

The Speaker praised the high-level organization of the event, noting that Uzbekistan’s hosting of the assembly was exemplary in both hospitality and conference management. He concluded, "For our delegation, the visit was successful, both in terms of bilateral discussions and work within the broader conference framework.”
