Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, attending the 66th PABSEC General Assembly in Sofia, said he will outline Georgia’s priority of boosting regional connectivity through parliamentary cooperation as the country begins its six-month chairmanship of the organization.
He noted major joint projects with Bulgaria, including a Black Sea underwater cable to deliver green energy to the EU and a new fibre-optic line to strengthen digital links. These initiatives, he said, reflect the growing role of Georgia and the wider Caucasus in connecting Europe and Asia—an opportunity amplified by the initialling of the Armenia–Azerbaijan peace agreement.
Responding to concerns that the Zangezur Corridor could undercut Georgia’s position in the Middle Corridor, Papuashvili argued that new routes increase competition, improve conditions for carriers, and ultimately make Georgia’s corridor more attractive. He added that enhanced regional stability will encourage broader investment and benefit the entire region.
