Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili claimed the October 4 municipal elections marked a decisive moment for Georgia, declaring that the people had rejected “alternative agendas” and stood for the constitution, law, and national interests.
He accused radical domestic groups and foreign actors of attempting a “Maidanization” of Georgia, describing the day’s protests as a coordinated coup attempt that was ultimately foiled by law enforcement. He credited police and security services for preventing “bloodshed and chaos,” while sharply criticizing EU representatives and international supporters for remaining silent or, in his view, indirectly backing the unrest.
Papuashvili claimed those involved planned to overthrow the government and must face accountability, labeling them as “extremists” acting under foreign influence. He also condemned what he called foreign propaganda and disinformation, including a prior statement of support from an EU spokesperson for the October 4 rally.
Calling the events a “final warning,” he promised the government would ensure peace and protect Georgia’s sovereignty under the constitution.
“With calmness, strength, dignity, loyalty, and love, good has triumphed over evil,” he concluded.
