Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili claimed in a social media post that labeling critics as “pro-Russian” is part of a coordinated propaganda campaign directed by the U.S. “Deep State.” He cited the U.S. National Intelligence chief as having revealed how such narratives are crafted and weaponized.
Papuashvili argued that this so-called Deep State is a mutual enemy of both Georgia and the U.S., using NGOs, media, and aid organizations like USAID and NED to influence politics abroad. He described domestic opposition figures and NGOs as “useful idiots” following foreign directives.
He also criticized former President Salome Zourabichvili and U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson for pushing unproven claims of “Russian interference,” suggesting they’re part of the same narrative machine. According to Papuashvili, U.S. intelligence has already decoded the true meaning behind terms like “pro-Russian,” and Georgians must now recognize the influence of foreign-backed propaganda.
