The Georgian Parliament has passed the draft law On Amendments to the Defense Code in its third and final reading, with 85 members voting in favor.
Deputy Minister of Defense Grigol Giorgadze presented the legislation during the parliamentary session.
The amendments aim to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the Georgian Defense Forces and refine regulations surrounding military service. Key updates include enhanced social guarantees for service members, adjustments to military registration procedures, and improved organization of both the National Military Service for conscripts and the Reserve Military Service.
The bill also introduces provisions related to military education and volunteering within the defense sector.
Aligned with the broader Defense Code, the amendments also affect several related laws. These include provisions on completing or prematurely terminating non-military alternative labor service, as well as updated guidelines on compensation for individuals conscripted into military service.
Furthermore, the legislation classifies failure to report to the conscription or medical commission in an attempt to evade conscription as a legal violation.
