
The General Director of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, Giorgi Chikovani, took part in the ministerial organized within the framework of the international gas conference in Bucharest, Romania, which was dedicated to the issues of gas supply security, taking the regional challenges into account. In particular, the conversation touched on the regulatory framework required to diversify the import of energy carriers in Europe and ensure the gas supply. Giorgi Chikovani participated in the work of the panel, which was related to the diversification of gas reserves, domestic production of natural gas, gas infrastructure, etc. In his speech, he focused on Georgia's growing role as a transit country and its future plans.
"Georgia, in recent years, was able to establish a diversified and sustainable system of supplying energy resources, and with this result, it can be an example for those, whose energy supply depends on one supplier. The formula of our country's energy security is diversification, regional integration, promotion of international trade, investment in regional infrastructure and renewable energy," - Giorgi Chikovani.
The head of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation also drew attention to the possibilities of exporting both electricity and renewable energy sources, for example, green hydrogen, from Georgia to the European market.
"Georgia, which has huge amount of hydro resources, can produce and export green hydrogen. International energy trade is developing rapidly, and I am sure that soon our role as a transit country will increase even more, and we will also acquire the function of a supplier of clean energy," - Giorgi Chikovani.
The delegations from such countries as Azerbaijan, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine, Hungary, Albania, Turkey and Georgia participated in the conference.
