Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee, has criticized what he described as persistent double standards from Brussels, saying recent developments have exceeded expectations—particularly in relation to Ukraine and Moldova.
Commenting on the European Commission’s enlargement assessment document, Makhashvili referred to reports indicating that references to corruption and human rights issues were removed from the assessments of Ukraine and Moldova.
“This suggests only one thing,” Makhashvili said. “The European Commission’s objective was not to assess facts objectively or establish the truth, but to use the document for political purposes—specifically to justify its double standards toward different countries, with Georgia being a clear example.”
