MP Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, stated that representatives of the European Union have confirmed in writing that Georgia is not responsible for the suspension of negotiations, asserting that it was the EU that halted the process.
Commenting on the protest rally planned for today, Gorduladze argued that participants either refuse to acknowledge the facts or are “being deliberately funded and directed from outside” to revive old accusations.
“There is no deviation from the European path. If anyone presents a document that would allow us to start direct negotiations with the European Union, we will sign it immediately. By 2030, we will be the country most prepared to meet European directives and obligations. We are asking for nothing—only fulfilling our commitments. The rest is for them to decide,” he said.
Gorduladze also claimed that the government had removed what he described as a political “weapon” from the hands of the current EU bureaucracy, which he characterised as being influenced by a “Deep State.” According to him, this narrative—suggesting alleged democratic backsliding in Georgia and using it as grounds to block negotiations—would otherwise have been used more aggressively.
“They are already doing this, but without this statement, it would have been pushed even more forcefully,” Gorduladze added.
