The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement following the 63rd round of the Geneva International Discussions.
The Georgian delegation focused on several key issues, including Russia’s full compliance with the ceasefire agreement and the dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees from occupied territories.
The ministry expressed concern over the worsening security, humanitarian, and human rights situation in the occupied regions, along with the ongoing illegal militarization. In this context, Georgia condemned the construction of a Russian naval base in Ochamchire and the opening of Sukhumi airport. The Georgian side also condemned the so-called "provocations" in Abkhazia, such as the illegal presidential elections and the meeting between the Russian President and the leader of the occupation regime, which Georgia views as a further step toward annexation, violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As in previous rounds, Russian and occupation regime representatives left discussions regarding the return of displaced persons and refugees unresolved.
The Geneva International Talks, established under the EU-brokered August 12, 2008 ceasefire agreement, focus on its implementation, the safe return of displaced persons, and the security and humanitarian challenges resulting from the Russian occupation. The talks are co-chaired by the EU, the UN, and the OSCE, with participation from Georgia, Russia, and the United States.
