
The Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Irakli Karseladze, met with the Regional Director of the World Bank (WB), Sameh Wahba, and the World Bank's Practice Manager for South Asia Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, Christoph Pusch.
As the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia reported, the meeting was also attended by the Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Davit Tabidze, and the Regional Director of the World Bank in the South Caucasus, Sebastian Molineus.
"Irakli Karseladze thanked Sameh Wahba for the long-term support of the infrastructure and regional development of Georgia by the World Bank.
The parties reviewed the completed, current and planned infrastructural projects in the country supported by the World Bank. The Minister spoke in detail about the progress and results of the ongoing projects for the construction and rehabilitation of municipal and tourist infrastructure, cultural heritage and socially important objects within the framework of the World Bank programs. He also emphasized the importance of these projects for the sustainable and equal development of the country's regions.
Irakli Karseladze briefed the representatives of the World Bank on the progress of the Renewed Regions programme initiated by the Prime Minister of Georgia. The Minister noted that part of the projects planned in 63 municipalities of the country had been accomplished, while the rest were at the stage of completion. Also, he spoke about the goals and objectives, planning and implementation processes of the program.
Sameh Wahba positively evaluated both the completed and ongoing projects with the support of the World Bank and as pert of the government program and the progress of their implementation. The World Bank officials also noted that they were considering the possibility of sharing Georgia's experience with several countries in terms of developing infrastructure projects.
With the support of the World Bank, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia has been implementing several programs since 2011. The programs include both basic (road, water supply and other) infrastructure development projects, as well as touristic facilities, cultural heritage monuments and other municipal infrastructure development projects," - the statement reads.
