Giorgi Mamardashvili, the goalkeeper for the Georgian national team and the Spanish football club Valencia, was ranked third this week in the Men’s World Best Goalkeeper category, as part of the annual awards presented by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
Mamardashvili earned this ranking with 55 points, placing him among notable players such as Gianluigi Donnarumma of Paris Saint-Germain, Unai Simón of Athletic Bilbao, and Emiliano Martínez of Aston Villa, the winner of the title for Men's World Best Goalkeeper.
In August, Liverpool Football Club officially announced an agreement to sign Mamardashvili from Valencia, with the player set to join the Premier League club for the 2025-26 season. The club praised the 23-year-old’s “impressive” performances during the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament, where he helped his national team advance to the round of 16 in their debut.
Mamardashvili was also included in the top five Under-25 goalkeepers list by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) Football Observatory last year, and Top Soccer Blog ranked him among the top 10 goalkeepers globally. Additionally, Transfermarkt, a website tracking player market values, set Mamardashvili’s worth at €45 million in July, following his strong performances at the Euros, making him the joint most expensive goalkeeper in the world.
