
The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, held a working meeting with the Parliamentary Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany, Jens Brandenburg.
The parties discussed joint Georgian-German educational projects and future plans. The conversation touched on the issues of deepening the scientific and research cooperation between the countries.
The Minister thanked the guest for his support of the Georgian education system and noted that in recent years, a number of important and large-scale projects hd been implemented at all levels of education with the support of the German government.
According to Giorgi Amilakhvari, cooperation between Georgian and German universities and scientific and research organizations is exemplary, including the partnership between the Kutaisi International University and the Technical University of Munich.
On the other hand, the parliamentary secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany stated that Germany supported Georgia's accession to the European Union, and he expressed hope that the issue of granting the candidate status would be resolved positively. In addition, Jens Brandenburg promised the Minister his support in reforming the scientific systems of Georgia and bringing it closer to the European research space.
The conversation also touched on the issues of cooperation between Georgian and German scientists within the framework of the EU grant program Horizon Europe, through the implementation of joint scientific research projects.
The parties agreed to actively continue working to deepen the existing partnership in the field of education and science.
After the meeting, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia and the German Research Foundation (DFG).
