“A new museum was added to one of the museum groups of the National Museum of Georgia (Shalva Amiranashvili Museum of Fine Arts, the National Gallery of Georgia, the Sighnaghi Museum of History and Ethnography), which was established on the basis of the Leuville estate in France, in the territory belonging to the state of Georgia, and it was called the Leuville Georgian-French Memorial,” - the National Museum of Georgia reported.
The Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia issued the respective order regarding this change on March 8, 2023.
In accordance with the conditions of the Notarial Act of return of Leuville estate to Georgia, it is planned to arrange a historical space on the first floor of the chateau, where the Georgian-French Memorial Museum of Leuville will be located. Noe Zhordania's office will be arranged on the second floor of the chateau. A media-library, exhibition and residential spaces will be also provided.
From 2021 until now, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has carried out large-scale infrastructure works in Leuville estate, namely: the restoration and conservation of the historical part of the fence of Leuville estate (4 ha) has been completed and the rehabilitation works of the watchman's house of Leuville estate (where the immigrant Ms. Nametia Goguadze lived for a long time) have begun and the restoration and beautification of Leuville estate park continues.
The Leuville estate will hold a Georgian house; the author of the project is the architect and restorer Tariel Kiparoidze. A hall space will be arranged in the oda house for cultural events anad a traditional Georgian souvenir shop will be opened.
With the cooperation of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia, Tea Tsulukiani, and the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Shamugia, the necessary wood material for the oda house has been found, and its processing will begin as soon as it dries. In the summer and autumn of 2023, various sports and cultural events are planned to be held in the Leuville estate.
The full rehabilitation of the Leuville estate, according to the obligations assumed by the government of Georgia, should be completed in September 2026.
