The Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili dismissed claims suggesting that the Georgian government had “suspended its relations” with the European Union (EU).
In an interview with Imedi TV, Botchorishvili emphasized that such an interpretation was “inaccurate.” She stated, “We have always been, and remain, prepared to maintain relations within the established framework with the European Union, rather than through public statements, which are highly detrimental. When the European Parliament adopts five resolutions annually containing entirely inaccurate interpretations and messages, it inevitably undermines efforts to sustain relations within a normal framework.”
Addressing the current state of relations with the EU, Botchorishvili remarked, “There have been accusations suggesting that Georgia has suspended relations with the European Union. In reality, it was the European Union that, in June, decided to impose certain limitations on dialogue with Georgia.”
The Foreign Minister also expressed optimism regarding the future of EU-Georgia relations. She asserted her belief that the factors contributing to the current “negative dynamic” would soon be resolved, adding, “There will also be a renewed willingness on the part of the European Union to restore relations to the framework in which they previously existed.”
