Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili responded to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s comments on the potential suspension of visa-free travel with Georgia, calling the remarks “sad and somewhat insulting” to the Georgian people.
Botchorishvili said Georgia has fulfilled all obligations to secure visa-free travel with the EU and labeled efforts to link political issues to this status as “incorrect and unfair.”
She accused the Georgian opposition of lobbying in Brussels to undermine the visa-free regime, saying such efforts are being used “against the interests of the Georgian people,” even though the idea has limited support in Brussels.
Tusk had referenced Georgia while addressing illegal migration in the Polish parliament, stating he would consider measures to limit or suspend visa-free travel for countries linked to rising migration risks—not only Georgia, but others as well.
